General Electric and the Lincoln Memorial: "The True Face Returns"

Illumination Arts:  The Lincoln Memorial

Bathed in the Right Light. (Washington Post, 8/27/2007)

Excerpt: At night, there is a second city that emerges in Washington, more beautiful and more intelligible than the city by day. The great monuments on the Mall glow a warm white, the grass and trees that surround them sink into inky darkness, and the city itself seems larger, more dramatic and more logically laid out.

"Abraham Lincoln" at the "Lincoln Memorial", by Daniel Chester French.

Excerpt: Concerns about the lighting of the statue persisted for several years; the original lighting cast Lincoln's face in a ghostly darkness. New lighting was installed in 1926 which to this day shows French's statue of Lincoln in a dramatic fashion at all times of the day and night.
