Excerpt:   On June 3, 1920, Scranton further cemented its place in international education. On that day, the Women's Domestic Institute laid the cornerstone for its new facility on Wyoming Avenue, across from its parent academy, the International Correspondence Schools. The Women's Domestic Institute was organized in 1916. 

The first student to enroll was Dorothy Hammerly of Brooklyn, N.Y. This was an era of applying scientific knowledge to the home front in areas such as home canning and nutrition. Many women took pride in perfecting their cooking, sewing and other skills so they could run more comfortable and efficient households. The school offered courses to help them do that.

Excerpt: Well, a few weeks back I went to an estate sale and found a group of booklets that were quite interesting. They were from the Woman’s Institute of Domestic Arts & Sciences, Scranton, Pennsylvania. The earliest copyright in the books was 1916, and the member’s card was from October 6, 1924.
