A Sad Story with a Fishy Smell

Full story at San Jose Mercury News.

There's soooooo much about this story that doesn't make sense.

Law Park, Madison, Wisconsin

National Guardian Life Building, Madison, Wisconsin

The corporate headquarters building is located at the northeast corner of East Gilman Street and Wisconsin.  Avenue.   First occupied on July 23, 1965.

From the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation website: Many people have pointed to the National Guardian Life Insurance and Verex Bldgs (recent WSJ editorial referred to these) as being allowed in the district. It’s been made perfectly clear at several public meetings that those buildings were built before the HD ordinance was implemented, and that the intrusion of those buildings in the neighborhood was a primary catalyst for the designation of the District and for the language of the Historic District restricting the scale of new construction. When crafting the ordinance we decided that we do not want large scale development in this District.

Madison's Mansion Hill neighborhood is in the news because of this project.

Between Olin and Lakeside

I biked past this unique building on Thursday's ride.

Romnes is a two-story, one-quarter of a mile-long building that is shaped like a horseshoe so it only takes up one square block.

John Forsythe (1918-2010)

Here's how Retiring Guy remembers him.
Admittedly, a bit fuzzy, but after all, it's been more than 50 years since I've seen this show. Whatever happened to the real TV Land?  As if we need more opportunities to see "Everybody Loves Raymond".
