#4 on the Billboard Hot 100

I get an early start to the day after a week's vacation.  The only surprise is that one of the sliding glass doors for the lobby display case is broken.  Otherwise, I zip through my mail and organize the May invoices.  Then I seem to be at a loss as to what to do next.  I have a long list of project screaming for my attention.  I take a break around 9:30 and eat a second, heartier breakfast at the Old Town Inn.  I try the chicken cordon bleu omelet, an uninspired but certainly edible concoction.  The American fries are very tasty.

The Dane County Reimbursement Study Committee meets at the Madison Public Library during the early afternoon.  I feel out of it here but still manage to make a few lucid contributions to the discussion.

For a change of pace, and in an effort to get my weight back down below 200, Andy and I walk home from Little Red.  He complains a few times about being tired walking.  So am I -- loaded down with my over-the-shoulder bag, a plastic string-tie bag containing our mail from the past week, and a brown grocery bag stuffed with a variety of Andy's leftovers from Little Red.

JoAnna's evening meeting is scheduled to we have a rare weekday evening to spend together.

April 28, 1992

Lasted a season and a half on NBC

I think about going into work early -- earlier than my 12 noon starting time, that is -- but get caught up with a little yard work and transcribing journal notes from January 1990.  I spend much of the afternoon at the Madison Public Library.  It's the second meeting of the Dane County reimbursement committee and a productive one at that.  I do have one concern.  We talk about cutting the same size pie into different sized pieces, but I (silently) don't buy that.  I am certainly not ready to accept a smaller check for Middleton.

For the first time in 5 weeks, I work the reference desk without interruption.

August 28, 1991

I spend all morning and the very early part of the afternoon at a Dynix vendor demonstration.  Susan, the presenter, "appreciates" all questions, but I do not appreciate her rambling, out-of-focus style.  When I leave the Madison Public Library, I feel as though I have wasted four hours of my time.

I'm able to get some work done during the afternoon.  The board report and budget proposal draft have to be ready for mailing tomorrow.

While Barb and JoAnna and Eddie attend a Chuck Chvala fundraiser in Monona, I stay at home with a recalcitrant Andy -- although he's fine when I get home -- and start to pack for the Warren trip.

March 26, 1991

A rough night.  I can't fall asleep and it's my turn to get up with Eddie.  Again I have little time to review my ETN notes, but today my presentation goes wonderfully.  I feel completely at ease and comfortable with my material.  After class, I stop at the continuing education office to pick up homework assignments and then walk to GEF 3 (via the Madison Public Library to check the Montana entry in the new Encyclopedia Britannica) to drop off my LSCA rankings.  I share some follow-up comments with Frances and Peg.

In order to give Barb some more time on a gorgeous day, I take the afternoon off and watch Eddie, content to tape musical nuggets from the 60s.
