What JoAnna and I Found at Tiedeman Pond Nearly A Month Into Spring

On Sunday, April 14.

It was our first ponds walk of the season. At the entrance to the Tiedeman Pond trail, we stepped around q barricade and ignored a sign warning us that the path was closed due to high water. We didn't even encounter any squishiness.

Much to JoAnna's disappointment, though, we didn't spot any blue herons.

The Scene at Tiedeman Pond This Evening

"Landscape" camera setting.  Note the receding waterline.  Tiedeman Pond has a beach -- of sorts.

"Sunset" setting, more like "world on fire".  Blue heron in orange juice.

Back to "landscape" setting.  A strong breeze gives the surface of the pond frosted-glass appearance.

The Ponds Walk, Sunday evening, May 15

We have plenty of other routes we can walk -- Lakeview Park, the Pheasant Branch Nature Preserve, to name two -- but the figure 8 walk around Tiedeman and Stricker ponds is the only one where a heron siting takes place.

And JoAnna loves her herons.

Unfortunately, none was spotted on this walk.  (Just a single duck.)

My Bucket's Got a Hole In It (and so, apparently, does Tiedeman Pond.)

The pond's at an unusually low level for spring. Looks more like a dry August.
